About Steel Wheel Homestead Inc.
At Steel Wheel Homestead, we believe good food and good community grow together.
We’re a nonprofit rooted in Wright County, Iowa, with a simple mission:
to grow fresh, local food and share it with the people who need it most — especially our senior citizens.
What began as a small idea — neighbors helping neighbors — has turned into a growing network of local homesteaders, gardeners, and families working side-by-side to make our community more self-sustaining.
Our volunteers plant, tend, and harvest fruits and vegetables right here on the homestead. Together, we donate produce to local senior programs, host hands-on learning days, and welcome the community to seasonal events like our Harvest at the Homestead.
We call this our “Incubator Phase” — a time to build strong roots, create connections, and learn what works best for our community before expanding even more in the years ahead.
Our vision is to make Wright County a model for sustainable living — where every person has access to healthy, local food and the skills to grow it themselves.
Because when we grow together, we thrive together.
Why You Should Donate
When you donate to Steel Wheel Homestead, you’re not just giving money — you’re planting hope. Every dollar helps us grow real food for local seniors, teach homesteading skills to new gardeners, and keep our community connected through hands-on events and education. Your support turns empty garden beds into fresh produce, shared meals, and friendships that feed both body and soul. Together, we can build a stronger, more sustainable Wright County — one seed, one season, and one neighbor at a time.
